Chivas USA will announce Robin Fraser as its new head coach on Tuesday, according to the Salt Lake Tribune and ESPN Deportes. The 44-year-old has spent the last four years as an assistant with Real Salt Lake, where he has helped Jason Kreis build one of the more dominant sides in Major League Soccer.
For Fraser, a Jamaican born former U.S. international defender, the Chivas USA gig will be his first in a head coaching position.
Fraser's former Los Angeles Galaxy teammate Greg Vanney will join as his assistant coach. Vanney has worked as the director of the RSL-Arizona youth academy program since retiring from the Galaxy in 2008.
The Goats allegedly had pared the field down to three coaching finalists after dismissing Martin Vasquez. The former assistant to Jurgen Klinsmann failed to lead the club into the playoffs in his first season as a head coach, finishing last in the Western Conference, and didn't last to see a second year at Chivas USA.
Once former Chicago Fire and New York Red Bulls trainer Juan Carlos Osorio turned the Goats down to remain with Once Caldas in Colombia, Chivas USA opted for Fraser ahead of former Fire coach Denis Hamlett.
Soccer America also reports that Jesse Marsch, Eric Wynalda, and Steve Sampson were considered for the job.
