Chelsea is looking at former U.S. U-17 defender Neven Subotic to shore up its leaky defense. The 22-year-old Subotic plays for German leader Borussia Dortmund and is regarded as one of the top young defenders in Europe.
Subotic has been one of the key players for Dortmund, the runaway leader of the Bundesliga, and is valued at roughly $30 million. Chelsea, which had to settle for a 3-3 with Aston Villa on Sunday, has struggled defensively in recent months as it has fallen off the pace in the English Premier League.
Arsenal, Manchester City and Real Madrid are also tracking Subotic, who was born in Bosnia to Serbian parents, moved to Germany and later the United States before representing the USA at the 2005 U-17 World Cup. He hoped to play for Germany at the senior level but could not obtain citizenship. He has since joined the Serbian national team
