The Fans Have Spoken

Mike Woitalla of Soccer America reports on the strong start at the turnstiles for Major League Soccer.

Four weeks into the 2010 season, MLS's average attendance is up by more than 2,000 compared to 2009's average for the entire season. At the same stage (29 games), average attendance is 3,000 more in 2010 than last season. The boost is thanks to the fact that the Seattle Sounders have already hosted three games and that expansion Philadelphia opened with 30,000-plus crowd.

The Sounders, who led the league last year in their first season, are back on top, having broken the 30,000-mark for each of their first three games.

Struggling again at the gate are two teams with soccer-specific stadiums: Dallas and Colorado.

After opening their new stadium with a crowd of 24,572, the New York Red Bulls drew 13,667 for last weekend's 2-1 win over FC Dallas.
