Destiny Not In United's Hands

Being in second place puts that team in a precarious position, as they have their own destiny in another team's hands. Unless you have a head-to-head match remaining against the first place team, you have to win out your matches while relying on the first place team to slip up.

Manchester United was already in a hole as they hunt for another English Premier League title - trailing leaders Chelsea - and that cause wasn't helped at all with a 0-0 draw with Blackburn Rovers today.

"It's a blow, there's no question about it. It makes it really difficult to win the league now," Ferguson said.

"That's a fantastic result for Chelsea," the Scot added.

United are now one point behind leaders Chelsea, who, crucially, have a game in hand.

Ferguson must now lift his team for next Saturday's Manchester derby versus Manchester City at Eastlands, before they face another tricky encounter at home to Tottenham, who are still chasing fourth place.

United then travel to Sunderland before hosting Stoke in the final game of their season

Carlo Ancelotti's Chelsea, who advanced to the FA Cup final with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Aston Villa at Wembley on Saturday, resume their Premier League title bid at the Reebok Stadium on Tuesday.

They then face a London derby at Spurs, also entertain Stoke a week later, and then face possibly the sternest test of their title ambitions away to Liverpool on 1 May.

The Blues final league game is against relegation-threatened Wigan at Stamford Bridge.
