Did Losing to Leeds Help Man Utd?

That's the question that is being asked by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

Despite seeing his Premier League counterparts lose, Wenger believes that a victory for the Red Devils would have proven beneficial to the Gunners in the grand scheme of things.

"I'd have preferred United to have won," the Frenchman said, according to The Sun.

"Losing to Leeds has not done them so much of a favour in the Premier League when you look at the fixtures.

"But in the Champions League, yes. The fifth round of the cup is just three days before United go to AC Milan.

"And just before the fifth round, we would play in the previous midweek and four days after it we play Porto."

Arsenal will play Stoke City in the next round on January 23, and have high-profile clashes with Aston Villa, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool before the fifth round comes along.

There is a lot of debate now in the National Football League (NFL) about resting starters in the final game(s) of the season as teams head into the playoffs. The argument for is coaches resting their top players to keep them fresh and sharp heading into the post-season.

Manchester United's Sir Alex Ferguson historically has not played his top players in domestic cup competitions, and whether it helps or not, expect Ferguson to have his top players fresh and sharp heading into key English Premier League and UEFA Champions League fixtures.
