Youth coach resigns after wacky e-mail

For those of you who associated with the 'Pretty in Pink' post yesterday, you will love to hear about U-8 girls youth coach Michael Kinahan's introductory email to his team.

He encouraged players to eat "undercooked red meat" and play like a "Michael Vick pit bull." The coach wrote that his players should be ready for "bumps, bruises and even bleed a little .... (but I do hope the other team is the one bleeding)."

In his e-mail, Michael Kinahan wrote that he heckles young refs because it helps them develop as people.

In his resignation letter, Kinahan wrote, "... I am sorry some people failed to see the humor."

"It's not a joke," Chris Park, the registrar for the Scituate Youth Soccer League, told the Boston Herald. "

He chewed out a 12-year-old so bad last year she said she won't referee anymore."Kinahan wrote that, "I believe winning is fun and losing is for losers" and that he wanted "girls who will kick ass and take names on the field, off the field and throughout their lives."

I am still trying to figure out if this was one of the following:

* A youth coach who took being sarcastic a little too far with his parents

* Someone who has watched the Will Farrell 'Kicking & Screaming' movie one too many times (Mike Ditka was great in that flick)

* A sad commentary of little league coaches/parents in our country

Below is the link to the article in the Patriot Ledger, as well as the email Kinahan wrote to his team...and the eventual resignation letter.
