The extent of Clint Dempsey's injury over the weekend has yet to be diagnosed, but as David Smith of Yanks Abroad reports, the prognosis could determine the US international's future in South Africa this summer.
Fulham are awaiting evaluation of Clint Dempsey's suspected knee ligament damage and hope to have a prognosis by Tuesday.
Dempsey limped off the field in Fulham's 2-0 loss to Blackburn on Sunday afternoon after approximately one hour of play, with coach Roy Hodgson admitting fear of a potentially critical injury to his posterior cruciate ligament following the game.
The team confirmed that the midfielder has undergone scans today, however are awaiting the evaluation of team doctors before making any announcement of the injury's severity.
"There's nothing to say about Clint currently," Fulham communications chief Sarah Brookes confirmed. "He's undergoing medical assessment and until we have any prognosis that comes from our medical experts we will not be making any comment."
The worst case of a PCL rupture would potentially rule Dempsey out for the rest of the Premier League season as well as put his participation in this summer's World Cup in doubt, leaving team officials and fans alike waiting with baited breath and hoping for a more encouraging outcome.
"I would imagine that we will know more [Tuesday]," Brookes continues, "but as I said the results from the scan will be looked at by a number of experts to make sure that Clint undergoes the correct treatment and to get him back as soon as possible."
"But other than that there is nothing else to say."
The Cottagers have off until Saturday when they visit the winner of Tuesday's Accrington Stanley versus Gillingham game in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
