Bowden Rides Out A Winner

It is hard not to be amazed by what Bobby Bowden has accomplished over his tremendous 44-year head coaching career in college football.

In his last game as the head football coach at Florida State University, the 80-year old Bowden led his Seminoles to a 33-21 victory over #18 West Virginia University in the Gator Bowl. Bowden finished his career with 389 wins, leaving as major college football's second winningest coach - Penn State's Joe Paterno earned his 394th victory Friday in the Capital One Bowl.

Bowden transformed Florida State into a national power, winning national championships in 1993 and 1999. His FSU teams finished an unprecedented 14 straight seasons in the top 5 of the Associated Press College Football Poll.

With over 300 former players there to help pay tribute to Bowden, it is clear that he was appreciated as a coach and teacher to his young men.

When you look back on his illustrious career, it is amazing to think that anyone could be as successful and as consistent at their craft as Bowden had been for over 40 years.
