For Jay Vidovich and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, they expect to be playing in December. Since 2006, Wake has advanced to the College Cup in each of those seasons - coming away as National Champions in 2007.
That kind of success breeds lofty expectations and demands, both from the coaching staff and the players.
The Wake Forest men's soccer team doesn't need fancy slogans or mottoes to get through a season, but it has developed one tradition -- locking up Spry Stadium after the final practice, then heading off to the College Cup.
It's something the Deacons have done every season since 2006.
"That's been one of our few sayings we've had these last few years -- our goal is to lock up Spry for that last practice and head to the College Cup," defender Ike Opara said. "We've done a good job of that."
Coach Jay Vidovich of Wake Forest says he isn't surprised that his team made it back to the College Cup, despite losing eight seniors after last season. A mix of veterans and newcomers has grown throughout the season, and the Deacons are playing their best soccer at the right time.
"I would say our mentality, that's why we are back again," Opara said. "At the beginning of the year, there were so many questions because we lost so many players. Nobody knew how we'd react, but we knew we could play, and it was just us believing we could do this."
