Osorio turns down Honduras
Former Red Bulls coach Juan Carlos Osorio will not coach the Honduras National Team after all.
Four days after he was appointed, Osorio on Saturday declined an offer to coach the national side for the CONCACAF Gold Cup and the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
The 48-year-old Osorio said he wanted to fulfill his promise to continue coaching Colombian champion Once Caldas. His contract with the club runs through June 30.
Osorio wanted to start as coach in June, but the Honduran Football Federation wanted him sooner.
According to the Associated Press, Osorio said that it "hurt" him to say no.
“I feel privileged that they should have thought of me as the right person to lead Honduras’s football," Osorio was quoted by Colombian daily El Tiempo.."I was convinced it was a great opportunity but Once Caldas won’t let me go.".
Osorio was to succeed Mexican Juan de Dios Castillo.
Osorio directed Once Caldas to the Colombian League crown last year with a 23-13-8 record.
