Newly appointed Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has stated that Manchester United should be their reference point when it comes to challenging for the title this season.
The former Porto coach is looking to emulate Sir Alex Ferguson's side as he prepares for his first season as Blues boss, and believes his side have what it takes to follow in the footsteps of Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti by leading the club to the Premier League title.
"United are a reference point for us. That is pretty clear. They are a big, successful club, as this club was when Jose, Carlo and Guus [Hiddink] were here, and [they are] the challenge we face next season," he was quoted as saying by The Mirror.
"If we are going to provoke them in that way, that's for our technical staff to decide. Most of them might think it's rubbish and let's just play. That's the key.
"It's not us shouting from the technical area that decides the success. Let's free them on their decision-making and see how they respond to motivation and ambition. We are people who like to focus a lot of motivation and ambition."
