Weir not bothered by Rangers winning ugly as long as they lift trophies

Defending champion Glasgow Rangers FC are up 8 points on Glasgow Celtic in the race to the Scottish Premier League title.

Despite claims about their lack of aesthetic beauty, Rangers captain David Weir knows what's important at the end of the day.

They are not an easy watch, though. Rangers, whose lead over Celtic has been cut to eight points, are just about getting by with a combination of resilience and ruthlessness at the right moments, the latest example of which was Kris Boyd’s 80th-minute equaliser against Motherwell. The performance, said some, was no more attractive than the Fir Park pitch, but in the circumstances, are they bothered?

David Weir, the team’s 39-year-old captain, certainly isn’t. “We realise that we’re not the most pleasing on the eye sometimes, but at the end of the day, it’s about winning games. That’s what we’re here for,” he said. “We’re not interested in getting credit or pats on the back. All we’re interested in is being successful and hopefully winning trophies. We know in the dressing room what we’re all about, what we put into it, and that’s all that matters to us.”
