Lewis provides leadership for the Galaxy

Eddie Lewis has been a consummate pro wherever he has played, be it domestically, abroad or with the US National team. Returning to MLS with the LA Galaxy, he is reunited with former US National team head coach Bruce Arena.

Not only does Arena expect solid and consistent play from Lewis on the left flank, but as Larry Morgan reports on MLSnet.com, to also be the steady presence that his young Galaxy team has desperately needed on and off the field.

"In a sport where you often have a lot of prima donnas and egos, you've got a guy who's on solid ground," Arena said of Lewis. "He's a fabulous individual and he commands respect in the locker room. He's an honest guy, he gives a great effort every day and he'll do whatever you ask him to do. He always plays for the team first, which for the modern-day player is very unique.
"On top of everything else he happens to be an outstanding player. He's a guy who has the full package, and you rarely see that today. A lot of players are very selfish and think about themselves. Eddie's just a very well-rounded player and greatly respected by the club, not only by the players but management and everyone else. Everyone likes him because of the person he is."

My cousin (Scott Lewis - no relation to Eddie) was a manager at UCLA while Lewis was a part of Sigi Schmid's Bruins teams, and always raved about the class act that Lewis was while he was there. Hopefully he will be the missing piece for a franchise that Major League Soccer needs to be successful.
